GUWAHATI: An Assam-based teacher was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly cooking 'beef' inside the school kitchen.

Nasiruddin Ahmed, the head teacher at Dakhin Duliapara Lower Primary School, in Dalgaon town of Darrang district, allegedly cooked a meal with beef inside the school kitchen meant to prepare midday meal for students.

Some people accused that the teacher also served beef to students. However, authorities are yet to confirm this fact.

The district elementary education officer (DEEO) has filed an FIR on grounds of trying to promote enmity between different groups on grounds of religion and hurting religious sentiments.

Referring to the 'beef ban' in some parts of the country and much hue and cry over the issue, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu earlier this year said that one can eat beef but there was no need for any celebration about it.

"You want to eat beef, then eat. Why festival? Similarly, a 'Kiss Festival', if you wish to kiss why do you need a festival or anyone's permission for it," Naidu said.
