Two forest department employees have died in a road accident in Assam's Nagaon district this morning when they were on way to attend a Vanamahotsav function, the police said.

Nagaon: Two forest department employees have died in a road accident in Assam's Nagaon district this morning when they were on way to attend a Vanamahotsav function, the police said.

The two employees, Sunil Mandal and Pradip Sarkar, were travelling on a motorcycle when they were knocked down by a vehicle at Kuthari on National Highway-37, the police said.

Soon after the accident, local residents blocked NH-37 for several hours in protest against the incident and demanded that the highway be widened to a 4-lane one near Kaziranga National Park.

They also demanded an animal corridor along the road.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal during his speech at the Vanamahotsav function condoled the death of the two forest personnel.
