Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday opined that reservation should be extended to private sector jobs.
While advocating for reservation in private sector, the Janata Dal (United) chief said there should be a debate on the issue at the national level.
Notable, Niti Aayog vice chairman Rajiv Kumar recently said he is against extending the reservation policy to the private sector, while admitting that more efforts are needed to generate more employment.
The Lok Janshakti Party led by Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan has recently demanded job reservations in private firms. Similar demand has been made in the past by other political outfits as well.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had made a case last year for extending the reservation policy to the private sector.
Kumar, who dumped the 'Mahagathbandhan' and formed an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party in July, said that people opposing Goods and Services Tax (GST), should be asked as to when was it first proposed.
The JD(U) chief was hinting at the Congress, which had vouched for the introduction of GST Bill during its regime.
Referring to the Value Added Tax (VAT), the Bihar Chief Minister said, there was no point in opposing GST. He pinned hope on smoothening of the process of GST implementation.
Kumar's remarks comes at a time when the Opposition has been hitting out at the Narendra Modi government over the GST implementation and announced to observe November 8 as black day.
The Centre on November 8, 2016 had banned the old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes.
On November 8, 2017 the BJP will organise programmes highlighting all the steps the government has taken against black money.
The Congress-led 18 Opposition parties have announced that they will observe November 8 as Black Day to protest against the "ill-conceived and hasty" decision of the government to scrap Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes a year ago.
JD (U) president and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on July 26 snapped ties with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress. The three parties had formed the Mahagathbandhan in 2015 and swept to power in the Assembly elections held in October-November that year.
Kumar walked out of the Mahagathbandhan following allegations of corruption against RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, who was then the deputy chief minister of the state. The JD (U) joined hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party to retain power leaving the Congress, which is already a spent force in the state, staring at an uncertain future.
