Nitish Kumar's convoy attacked, pelted with stones in Bihar; two injured

PATNA: The convoy of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was attacked and pelted with stones during a 'Samiksha Yatra' in Buxar's Nandan on Friday.

The attackers threw stones but the chief minister was rescued safely. However, two of the security personnel in his convoy were injured. A report said that people of Nandan village wanted the Chief Minister to visit the Dalit Basti which led to a disagreement followed by stone pelting. CM Nitish was safely evacuated from the area.

Nitish Kumar is on a state-wide tour since December 12 to take a stock of state government's development schemes over the years. Earlier this month, Kumar had restrained policemen from going after a group of youngsters who waved black flags at his public meeting in Saharsa district.

The incident took place at Sulindabad village in Kehra block of Saharsa, where the chief minister said a crackdown would lead to undue publicity for the youngsters who were 'barely four or five in number' and remarked wryly 'what is wrong with the black colour. It is a fine shade.' "Dissent lends beauty to democracy," the JDU chief had said in Saharsa.

Further details are awaited in connection with Friday's incident.
