'Padmavati' set torched: Shahid Kapoor calls it an 'unfortunate' incident

New Delhi: Bollywood's one of the finest actors, Shahid Kapoor is known for getting into the skin of his characters, making them memorable forever. The star was last seen in Vishal Bhardwaj's 'Rangoon', which didn't do well at the box office yet managed to get rave reviews for the actor's incredible performance.

Shahid's next happens to be Sanjay Leela Bhansali's (SLB) 'Padmavati'. The film has been running into trouble ever since its inception. Recently, the film set was attacked by a fringe group in Kolhapur during midnight. It was torched and the costumes-jewellery items were set ablaze, reportedly.

The actor was asked about the same at an event and PTI quoted him as saying, “I am aware there has been some disruption that happened, I am aware that a certain amount of costumes got burnt, I am aware everybody is safe and nobody got harmed. The shooting has wrapped up and the team is coming back”.

"What I am not aware of is who has done it. It is unfortunate that something like this has happened for the second time. As soon as there is some more clarity, the production house will respond to it. But no principal actors were there (when the incident happened)," he added.

'Padmavati' features Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, besides Shahid in the lead role. Around 20 unidentified people torched the costumes and the animal feed kept there for the horses featuring in the period drama, the police said.

Following the incident, the film's crew was provided police protection, Maharashtra's Minister of State for Home Deepak Kesarkar said yesterday.
In January this year, some members of Karni Sena, a Rajput community group, had attacked Bhansali and stalled the film's shooting at Jaigarh fort in Jaipur.
