Ranveer Singh's Simmba: Know how Janhvi Kapoor lost out to Sara Ali Khan

Mumbai: A few days back, the makers of Simmba revealed the name of the leading lady in their film starring Ranveer Singh in the titular role. It was none other than Sara Ali Khan, daughter of Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh. But did you know that Janhvi Kapoor was also being considered for the cop-drama?

Well, according to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Janhvi (daughter of producer Boney Kapoor and Late Sridevi) lost out to Sara by going around and telling everyone that she has been signed for the film and how nervous she is to star opposite Ranveer Kapoor. And this happened even before the producers could make an official announcement.

Sara, who was then all set to make her debut in Abhishek Kapoor's Kedarnath starring Sushant Singh Rajput, was roped in by Rohit Shetty and Karan Johar for the masala entertainer. And now that Kedarnath may not release as per initial schedule, Simmba will mark Sara's first film.

Janhvi on the other had is gearing up for her debut film Dhadak co-starring Ishaan Khatter. The film is a remake of Marathi blockbuster Sairat starring newcomers Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar and directed by Nagraj Manjule. Dhadak , which is slated to release on July 6 is directed by Shashank Khaitan and produced by Johar's Dharma Productions.

Interestingly, both Sara and Janhvi will be launched by the Dharma Productions banner.

The poster of Simmba was unveiled in December last year. In the quirky poster, we can see Ranveer sporting a handlebar moustache and aviators. Going by the picture, it is evident that the heartthrob will play a cop named Sangram Bhalerao.

Ranveer’s funny expression also substantiates the fact that he will play a happy-go-lucky, witty character.

Simmba will be his first with Rohit and the filmmaker’s maiden venture with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions’ banner. The film may have Ajay Devgn on board for a cameo role. Rohit is very close to Ajay and has delivered a number of blockbusters – Golmaal series, Singham, Singham Returns with him already.

The film which will hit theatres on December 28 this year will also have Sonu Sood on board as the main antagonist.
