The compact SUV market is crowding up with newer models and Honda doesn’t seem to want to be left behind in the race.

These days compact SUVs seems to be a segment that almost every manufacturer wants to have a presence in. From the new Hyundai Creta, to the upcoming Maruti Suzuki YBA and the Volkswagen Tiguan, a glut of compact SUVs are expected to hit our roads soon.

The latest to join the bandwagon is Honda which recently released sketches of a seven-seater crossover prototype named the BR-V, short for Bold Runabout Vehicle. Based on the Brio/Amaze/Mobilio platform, the BR-V will debut at the Gaikindo Indonesian International Auto Show 2015 to be held from August 20-30, 2015.

The sketches look rather close to what the production version may (or rather should) look like. The styling is edgy with lots of sharp cuts and creases that point to its affinity with the Amaze and engine that powers the Mobilio. There is no official word on a diesel engine but expect Honda’s efficient 1.5-litre oil burner to find its way into the BR-V.

Mobilio. There’s plenty of side and underbody cladding to give it a muscular look and that should get Indian car buyers excited. The alloys are large and chunky roof rails lend it a sporty, soft-roader character.

Technical details are still under wraps but what we do know is that it will get the 1.5-litre petrol The BR-V may make it to India late next year but you may just find it on display at next year’s Auto Expo.
