2016 BMW 7-series to be unveiled today?

The BMW 7-series sedan will come with an evolutionary design, pitting it against the likes of Mercedes-Benz S Class and the Audi A8.

German luxury carmaker BMW is all set to unveil the 2016 BMW 7-series on Wednesday.

The BMW 7-series sedan will come with an evolutionary design, pitting it against the likes of Mercedes-Benz S Class and the Audi A8.

The sedan will be the second BMW model to get laser headlights with double-barrel detailing including an LED daytime-running lights, with prominent chrome detailing.

On the engine front, the 7-series will have a 460-horsepower V8 volume engine while the company will also offer it with a 600-hp 6.6-liter V12 engine designed jointly with Rolls-Royce.

The BMW 7-series will go on sale internationally in the second half of the year. The India launch could happen sometime early 2016 though nothing is clear as yet.

Meanwhile, the company yesterday launched an updated version of its 3 Series Gran Turismo Sport Line sedan in India with an introductory price tag of Rs 39.90 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The diesel-powered BMW 320d Gran Turismo Sport Line would be locally produced at the company's plant in Chennai.

The sedan comes with various features including BMW driving experience control switch, which enables the driver to choose between different driving modes to suit the driving conditions.

At present, the luxury carmaker sells more than a dozen models in India out of which eight are assembled locally at its Chennai plant, which has an installed capacity of 14,000 units per year at three-shift schedule. It is focusing on increasing localisation of content in India.

BMW India began operations in 2007 and has since then invested Rs 490 crore.
