'Demand in luxury car mkt is strong'

"The demand in the luxury car market segment continues to be strong. We will be doing about 15-16 units this (financial) year....", Performance Cars Managing Director Lalit Choudary said.

Chennai: Aston Martin aims to sell about 15 units of its iconic range of luxury cars this financial year.

"The demand in the luxury car market segment continues to be strong. We will be doing about 15-16 units this (financial) year....", Performance Cars Managing Director Lalit Choudary said.

Performance Cars (a division of Infiniti Cars) handles sales and marketing of UK-headquartered Aston Martin cars in India.

Performance Cars today showcased the latest 'V8-Vantage S' and 'Rapide S' cars in the Chennai market, priced at Rs 2.75 crore (Ex-showroom Mumbai)and Rs 4.60 Crore (Ex-showroom Mumbai) respectively.

Choudary said this luxury segment is a "very sophisticated market" and the demand for such cars is "continuing to be strong" in India.

"Apart from the four metros, we were also selling in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Pune," Choudary said.
Such cars are sold mroe in major cities because of the quality of roads and availability of fuel there, he added.

"For these buyers, price is not consideration. All our vehicles are customised as per the buyers' requirement," he said.

Asked whether Performance Cars would look at assembling the cars in India in the future, Choudary ruled out that concept as the cars serve only the niche segment and not a mass segment.

However, he admitted to a query that the company was paying "huge amounts" as import taxes since the cars are sold in India as a "completely-built unit".
