New Delhi: Ford India is set to launch a new compact sedan -- Figo Aspire -- by this year, according to various media reports.

Figo Aspire is based on the Ford Figo sedan concept shown by the auto company during the 2014 Auto Expo. To be manufactured at the newly inaugurated manufacturing facility at Sanand (Gujarat), the compact sedan will be made on a new platform and will come with a choice of both petrol and diesel engines.

It is being anticipated that the 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine would produce 75bhp and 102Nm, while the 1.5-litre diesel variant should deliver 89bhp and 204Nm. The safety features include driver and passenger airbags, and for the first time in a compact car in India, side and curtain airbags.

The Figo Aspire, Ford's first sub-4 meter sedan, will compete with Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and Tata Zest and is expected to be priced between Rs 5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh. Reports state that three engine options will be available on the new Ford.
