Maruti resumes production at 2 plants in Jat stir-hit Haryana

New Delhi: The country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India Tuesday resumed production at its two manufacturing facilities in Haryana after two days of suspension due to the Jat reservation agitation in the state.

The suspension of work at the two plants, located at Gurgaon and Manesar in Haryana, resulted in production loss of around 10,000 units to the company.

"The company has resumed production of vehicles at its facilities in Gurgaon and Manesar starting Tuesday second half. The supply of components has started gradually," Maruti Suzuki India said in a regulatory filing.

Shares of the company declined nearly 1 percent to close at Rs 3,492.50 on the BSE today.

The company had to suspend operations at its facilities from Saturday, February 20 (second half) as supply of certain components was disrupted due to the Jat agitation in Haryana, it added.

The two plants put together roll out some 5,000 units of vehicles a day.

Curfew today remained in force in Hissar, Hansi and Bhiwani towns in Haryana while a four-hour relaxation was given in the worst-hit Rohtak district as Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar visited the town.

However, there was a slight respite for commuters as Jat protesters were lifting the various road and rail blockades set up in various parts of the state.

Traffic had resumed on the arterial Ambala-Delhi Highway up to Panipat and officials hoped that as the situation normalises in Sonepat, the onward traffic would resume soon after its disruption due to the Jat agitation which has claimed 19 lives and caused extensive damage to property.

Maruti Suzuki shares today ended at Rs 3,492.50 apiece on the BSE, down 0.87 percent from previous close.
