New Delhi: Soon you can drive on the roads without having to bother about carrying the physical copy of your driving licence, as per a news daily.

The Times of India has reported that road transport ministry is contemplating to allow soft copies of driving license, registration and insurance papers as valid for  documents verification purposes.

In a bid to further ese the process of application of licence or registration, the ministry is also thinking of allowing it from any regional transport offices (RTO) in a state, the paper reported.

The window for renewal of licence will also be extended to one year from date of expiry as against the present norm of 30 days, TOI further reported.

However, if you have an expired licence, you won't be allowed to drive.

Notably, Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari had last month said that India’s Motor Vehicle Bill will be re-drafted within a month in line with advanced international practices to enhance road safety.

Gadkari said data for driving licenses will be centralised to check misuse as often one person is found in possession of several licences.
