Ssangyong Korando to hit Indian roads this month

One of the much awaited compact SUVs (Sport Utility Vehicles) is slated to be launched in India in August. The vehicle is poised to cater to the mid segment of Indian SUV buyers.

New Delhi: One of the much awaited compact SUVs (Sport Utility Vehicles) is slated to be launched in India in August. The vehicle is poised to cater to the mid segment of Indian SUV buyers.

Ssangyong Korando is the second car to be launched in India after Ssangyong Rexton which was launched in the country in 2012.

Ssangyong Motor is South Korea based subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, which specialises in manufacturing of SUVs. The company's Rexton compact SUV has already done good numbers in the India. Meanwhile, as per sources it is learnt that the company is in the process of deciding a suitable launch date for Korando. The launch may take place as early as this month.

Korando was showcased by Mahindra for the first time at the New Delhi Auto Expo in early 2012.
The car was relaunched in South Korea in 2010 after selling under the brand name of 'Korando Jeeps' from 1983 to 2006. Ssangyong CEO, Lee Yoo-il has said that the car is suitable for highway driving as well as urban travel.

Korando-C is a muscular 5 seater compact SUV. The vehicle comes equipped with satellite navigation systems, steering-mounted audio controls, ABS with EBD, two airbags, cruise control, climate control, alloy wheels, fog lamps, stylish headlights, dual chrome exhausts, high mounted stop light, and a rear spoiler.

The car, when launched in India will be available with a 175bhp 2.0 litre turbocharged diesel engine. The vehicle will be priced competitively in the Rs.15-20 lakhs bracket and will compete with Renault Koleos, Skoda Yeti and Chevrolet Captiva in its segment.
