Railway Budget 2015: Wi-Fi facility to be provided in 400 stations

Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu on Thursday said that Wi-Fi facilities would be provided in over 400 stations.

New Delhi: Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu on Thursday said that Wi-Fi facilities would be provided in over 400 stations.

Presenting the Railway Budget for fiscal 2015-16 in Parliament, Prabhu said, "This budget is for speedier railway, nine high-speed corridors, high speed trains, and Make in India opportunities. There will be satellite railway terminals in major cities - 10 select stations and Wi-Fi facility will be provided in 400 stations."

He further said that fast tracking would be the highest priority of the government.

"Fast track would be the highest priority. Investments will be 84 percent higher; 77 new projects, including doubling/ tripling/ quadrupling/ electrification will be initiated. There will be state of the art perishable cargo centre for the benefit of farmers. Construction of long loop lines would be expedited and the average speed of freight trains both in empty and filled condition to be enhanced," he added.
He also announced that studies are being commissioned for high-speed trains on other routes on the diamond quadrilateral.

This is the NDA Government`s first full-fledged railway budget since assuming power last year.
