Gold prices slipped by Rs 20 to Rs 28,350 per ten gram at Delhi bullion market Tuesday due to slackened demand at existing levels.

Gold in overseas markets, which normally set price trend on the domestic front, hit its highest in nearly a week today as violence flared in the Middle East and Ukraine, but gains were capped by uncertainty ahead of a Federal Reserve policy meeting and important US data later this week.

Israel's military pounded targets in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country should prepare for a long conflict in the Palestinian enclave, squashing any hopes of a swift end to fighting.

Meanwhile, intense fighting between Ukrainian troops and pro-Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine killed at least 19 civilians, local officials said on Tuesday, as Kiev pressed an offensive to close in on the separatists.

Spot gold was up 0.3 percent at USD 1,307.20 an ounce, after slipping by a similar amount in the previous session. US gold was up USD 4.50 at USD 1,307.80.
