New Delhi: The Apple Watch debuted yesterday with sales limited to those who had pre-ordered online. It was a low-key start with none of the fanfare and fuss usually seen for a launch by the tech titan.
The device is a protracted launch of Apple Inc Chief Executive Tim Cook`s first new product, capping months of publicity and a frenetic two weeks of pre-orders.
It marks Apple's first new product type since the iPad in 2010.
Apple's hotly-anticipated smartwatch is here to make space for the stylish wrist-worn computers in the list of must-have accessories for modern lifestyles. Let's have a look at ten important things about the gadget.
1. Paired with an iPhone, the watch allows users to check email, listen to music and make phone calls.
2. The watch goes on and off automatically as you raise or lower your wrist.
3. It also tracks a person`s health, for instance by monitoring heartbeats or tracking calories burned during a workout.
4. Users can also send a real-time display of their heartbeat to another Apple Watch.
5. Prices start at $349, with a limited-edition gold version costing $10,000.
6. The Apple Watch is 38mm-wide and features a 340 x 272-pixel rectangular touch screen.
7. The Watch will be available in three collections: Apple Watch with stainless steel case, Apple Watch Sport with silver aluminium case and Apple Watch Edition with 18 carat gold case.
8. Keeping in view different style and wrist size, the Apple Watch comes in two case sizes: 38mm and 42mm.
9. Each watch comes with a variety of faces with most faces being extensively customisable.
10. The battery lasts up to 18 hours on a single charege. Some of the battery metrics are: timepiece (up to 48 hours), audio playback (up to 6.5 hours), talk time (up to 3 hours), workout (up to 6.5 hours), power reserve (up to 72 hours).
