New Delhi: Chinese smartphone company has launched yet another entry-level smartphone, the Redmi 1S in the Indian smartphone market followed by the blockbuster sale of its previous phone Xiaomi Mi3.

The Redmi 1S has been affordably priced at Rs 5,999 and will go on sale starting September 2. During its unveiling in July, the Redmi 1S was priced at Rs 6,999, the same price as Motorola's Moto E.

However, a Rs 1,000 price cut might threaten the position of Moto E which has been selling like hot cakes ever since it was launched in India.

Xiaomi Redmi 1S features a 4.7-inch 720p IPS display and is powered by a 1.6GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor. It runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and comes with 1GB of RAM. The internal memory is 16GB which is expandable via a microSD card to 64GB.

The phone has a 2000mAh battery. As for the camera, it sports a 8MP rear camera and a 1.6MP front-facing camera.

Last week, online retail site Flipkart said that it will stop selling Moto G smartphone in the country. The company had put out a banner announcing the last stock of the Moto G 16GB version priced at Rs 11,999.

The Motorola Moto G got a price cut of Rs 2,000 in July. After the price cut the handset is available at Rs 10,499 for the 8GB version and Rs 11,999 for the 16GB version. Many tech experts have attributed this price cut as a consequence of Xiaomi's fast-selling smartphone that threatened the position of many best-sellers.

Motorola in February this year launched the much-awaited Moto G is at Rs 12,499 for 8 GB version and Rs 13,999 for the 16 GB variant.
