New Delhi: Chinese handset maker Xiaomi may launch an affordable smartphone in India today.

For a very long time the media has been speculating the launch of an entry-level phone by Xiaomi. The speculations have become intense following a twitter post by the company India handle.

Xiaomi's official twitter handle @MiIndiaOfficial has posted, “ 8 April is Xiaomi’s 5th birthday celebration! Stay tuned for more surprises. Will you wish Mi a happy birthday? ;)”.

As per reports the phone will sport a 4.7-inch display with 720x1280p resolution. It will pack Leadcore LC1860 quad core processor clocked at 1.6GHz, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage, a 13MP rear camera and 2MP front camera.

Last year Hugo Barra, President of Xiaomi Global, had said that the company is “committed in bringing the best technology to our fans at the lowest price points.”

In less than five years, the Chinese company has become the world`s number three smartphone vendor, behind only Apple and South Korea`s Samsung, shipping 17.3 million phones in the third quarter of 2014, according to International Data Corp (IDC).

Xiaomi has launched products outside mainland China in Hong Kong and Taiwan, as well as Southeast Asia, but the company suffered a setback in India.

In December, Sweden`s Ericsson won a court order blocking sale of Xiaomi devices in India over patents.
