Jaitley allocates funds for war memorial, national police memorial

New Delhi: The Narendra Modi government on Thursday announced the setting-up of a war memorial at Princess Park, New Delhi.

While presenting the Union Budget 2014-15, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that the memorial will be supplemented by a war museum. The minister has allocated a sum of Rs 100 crore for this purpose.

Jaitley said the country is deeply indebted to the officers and jawans of the armed forces for having made huge sacrifices to defend its honour. In doing so, a very large number of them gave up their lives. He said, “It is a privilege for the nation to erect a befitting memorial in their memory.”

The Finance Minister also announced the construction of a befitting National Police Memorial and proposed to allocate a sum of Rs 50 crore for this purpose.
