After hiking pay packets, CCI looks to hire more experts

Competition Commission of India (CCI), which keeps a tab on unfair business practices across sectors, is looking to ramp up its manpower.

New Delhi: Close on the heels of hiking the monthly pay for professionals and experts, Competition Commission is looking to hire more people in the areas of law, economics and financial analysis.

Competition Commission of India (CCI), which keeps a tab on unfair business practices across sectors, is looking to ramp up its manpower.

The regulator has now called for applications to engage four experts/professionals in different areas. Two would be from the law stream, one from economics and another from financial analysis segment.

Initially, the regulator would hire the experts for one year and depending on requirements, the tenure could be extended, according to a recent notice issued by CCI.

It comes close on the heels of the regulator increasing the pay packet for experts and professionals hired by it and would get a 10 per cent increment after completing one year.

For experts and professionals, the regulator has hiked monthly remuneration by Rs 10,000 at all levels. They are classified into five categories based on their experience.

Those having up to three years experience are grouped as Level I, 3-5 years (Level II), 5-10 years (Level III), 10-15 years (Level IV) and 15 years and more (Level V).

With the latest revision, those hired under Level V would get a "lump sum monthly remuneration" of Rs 1,35,000.
For Level I and II officials, the monthly pay has been raised to Rs 40,000 and Rs 60,000, respectively.

Those coming under Level III and IV groupings would now get a monthly lump sum of Rs 85,000 and Rs 1,10,000, respectively.

The revised monthly lump sum pay would also be applicable to experts and professionals who are already working at the Commission.

To hike the remuneration levels for such people, the Commission last month amended the Competition Commission of India (Procedure for Engagement of Experts and Professionals) Regulations.
