New Delhi: Telecom operator Airtel has deployed its first 4G network in Africa at Seychelles in partnership with Swedish firm Ericsson.

The network, however, is yet to be commercially launched, according to a statement issued by Ericsson.
The network is expected to cover 10,000 LTE (4G) subscribers in the first phase, it added.

"As a leading telecom service provider, this is a service we are very proud to offer our customers and Ericsson is our partner in delivering this," Airtel Seychelles Country Manager Amadou Dina was quoted in the statement as saying.

The agreement between Ericsson and Airtel includes equipment, software and support services, as well as incorporating multi-standard radio base station equipment and upgrading existing 2G and 3G access network software.

"This further demonstrates our commitment to our long term strategic business relationship with Airtel," Ericsson Sub-Saharan Head Fredrik Jejdling said.
