New Delhi: Noted Chennai-based business tycoon M A M Ramaswamy passed away Wednesday evening at a city hospital where he was undergoing treatment for various health problems. He was 84.

The Co-founder and Chairman of Chettinad Group of Companies, Ramaswamy was said to have been admitted to city hospital about a fortnight ago dor liver failure. The condition deteriorated and affected his other organs, said a report in The Times of India.

Ramaswamy is also a politician from Janata Dal (Secular) party and was a Member of the Parliament of India representing Karnatakain the Rajya Sabha.

The man who once controlled the 103-year old company, had in June this year, disown his adopted son M A M R Muthiah and appointed his cousin A C Muthiah as the custodian of his property.

“My son will murder me any moment,” the 84-year old had said earlier.

Disowning his adopted son, Mr Ramaswamy had said, "It is fit to terminate the adoption relationship in our community as the adoption was against the mandatory custom."

“I have disowned him, and do not wish to call him my son. Whatever the law may be, he is no more my son. According to me, he can be only S. Ayyappan and not M A M R Muthiah. When I die, he should not light the funeral pyre,” Mr Ramaswamy said.
