Coal scam: Special Court grants bail to HC Gupta, LS Janoti

Last month, the duo were summoned as accused by a Special Court in connection with a coal scam case.

New Delhi: A Special Court on Tuesday granted bail to former coal secretary H C Gupta and retired public servant L S Janoti in coal scam case. The Court has allowed plea of ex-minister of state for coal Santosh Bagrodia, seeking exemption from personal appearance on health grounds for today.

Last month, the duo were summoned as accused by a Special Court in connection with a coal scam case.

The court summoned the accused for the alleged offences under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) read with 420 (cheating), 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant) under IPC and under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act.

Meanwhile, Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda on Monday moved an application in Special Court seeking summoning of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as an accused in a coal scam case.

Koda, who is also an accused in the case, sought summoning of Manmohan Singh, who was then holding the portfolio of the Coal Ministry, Anand Swarup who was then Secretary (Energy) and then Mines and Geology Secretary Jai Shankar Tiwari.
