GMR claims $803 mn from Maldivian government

GMR Male International Airport Pvt. Ltd (GMIAL) has submitted a claim for damages to the tune of USD 803 million against the government of Maldives and MACL, the company said on Friday.

New Delhi: GMR Male International Airport Pvt. Ltd (GMIAL), a subsidiary of GMR Infrastructure Ltd (GMR), has submitted a claim for damages to the tune of USD 803 million against the government of Maldives and the Maldives Airport Co. Ltd (MACL), the company said on Friday.

GMIAL had bagged a contract for the modernisation and operation of Ibrahim Nasir International Airport in Maldives in 2010. But this contract was terminated by the Maldives government.

In June 2014, GMR said that an international tribunal had declared the concession agreement to upgrade the Maldives international airport as valid.
