Hefty paychecks: Facebook offers Rs 1.55 cr package to IIT grads

New Delhi: The placement season at India's premium institute-- Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) kick-started on Monday.

Top international companies such as Google, Microsoft, Samsung, Oracle, Facebook, Amazon and many are amongst those who will visit all IIT campuses till the last day for placements.

Social networking giant Facebook visited IIT Bombay on 'Day One' and offered packages over Rs one crore each to two computer science graduates. Facebook offered an annual package of around Rs 1.55 crore with a US posting to these students.

This is the probably the highest ever offer across IITs in recent years.

IT majors Microsoft and Google closely followed Facebook, more than 80 offers were made by 33 top ranked companies from across the globe.

According to reports, the first day of campus placements was divided into two slots --16 companies including ITC, Sony Japan, Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs were scheduled for interviews in the first half and 17 companies including IBM, Samsung India, Linkedin, Airbus and others would look to hire in the second slot that ends at 2 am on Tuesday.

Also, the highest package received on the IIT-Madras campus in the first two slots on Monday was around $1,30,000 (around Rs 80 lakh).
