Jet Airways expands codeshare pacts with Vietnamese, Indonesian carriers

Private carrier Jet Airways Friday announced expansion of its codeshare pacts with the national carriers of Vietnam and Indonesia, which would allow its passengers unhindered air travel to the ASEAN region.

Mumbai-based Jet Airways, which is partly owned by the Gulf carrier Etihad, currently operates its services between Bangkok and Singapore to Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi in Vietnam under a similar pact.

Similarly, Jet Airways currently codeshares with Garuda Indonesia for flights between Singapore and Jakarta.

Code-sharing allows an airline to book passengers on its partner carriers and provide seamless transport to multiple destinations where it has no presence.

Jet Airways has 21 codeshare partners across the globe.

"The expanded codeshare cooperation with the two airlines further strengthens our position in Asia, allowing us to win new customers in the region and providing more options and easy connections to our existing guests," Jet Airways Chief Commercial Officer Raj Sivakumar said in a release.

Besides, Indonesia and Vietnam are strategic trade and investment partners for India and also popular tourist destinations for Indian travellers, he said.

As part of the expanded agreement, Jet Airways will place its code (9W) on Vietnam Airlines' flights operating between Singapore and Phu Quoc Island and vice versa from April 15 onwards, the company said.

The Naresh Goyal-promoted private carrier offers services to Ho Chi Minh City through Bangkok from its hubs in Mumbai and Delhi.

Under the enhanced codeshare pact with the Indonesian flag carrier, Jet Airways will place its code (9W) on Garuda Indonesia flights operating between Singapore and Bali Denpasar, which is one of the most the popular leisure destinations in te ASEAN region, the company said in a release.

Guests travelling on both Jet Airways and Garuda Indonesia will be able to fly between various points on connecting flights operated by the carriers from April 20, it said.

Jet Airways with a fleet of 116 aircraft comprising Boeing, Airbus and ATR planes including the wide body Boeing 777s and A330s, operates across 73 domestic and international destinations.
