New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing controversy regarding safety of instant noodles Maggi in India, Nestle India Managing Director Etienne Benet on Friday stepped down.

Suresh Narayan, who is currently the Chairman and CEO of Nestle Philippines, will be the interim MD.

Etienne Benet, who will vacate the MD's post with effect from July 25, 2015, will relocate to Nestle Group Head Office in Switzerland.

Maggi noodles were banned by India's food regulator on June 5 after an allegedly high amount of lead and monosodium glutamate (MSG) were found in a sample. Following that, Nestle withdrew all the variants of the popular instant noodle but continued to maintain that its products were safe.

This was also confirmed by a host of other countries, including Britain, Singapore and Canada, who found Maggi noodles that were imported there from India to be safe.
