New Delhi: On 13th May, Medical devices company Opto Circuits India's US arm Cardiac Science has launched a new automated external defibrillator (AED) in America and Canada.

"The Powerheart G5 is the first FDA-cleared AED to combine fully automatic shock delivery, Fast shock times to help save a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) victim's life," Opto Circuits India said in a filing to BSE.

SCA is the number one global cause of death with 17.3 million deaths each year, according to the American Heart Association.

Opto Circuits India Chairman and Manging Director Vinod Ramnani said: "As more and more countries recognise the threat posed by SCA, legislation and public attitudes are steering buying decisions."

This has allowed the company to maintain price points as customers want AEDs that are easy to use, ready for operation, and feature advanced technology, he added.

The Powerheart family of AEDs is designed to enable rescuers to swiftly provide effective, life-saving therapy to aid a person who has suffered sudden cardiac arrest, Opto Circuits India had earlier said.
