Sugar prices fall on low demand, ample supply

Sugar became cheaper by Rs 20 per quintal in the wholesale market in the national capital today as demand from stockists and retailers remained weak on persistent supplies by mills.

New Delhi: Sugar prices slipped by Rs 20 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today following fall in demand from stockists and retailers amid persistent supplies by mills.

Marketmen attributed the slowdown in buying by bulk consumers at prevailing levels against pick up in supplies from mills which mainly weighed on the sweetener prices.

Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices were down by Rs 20 each to end at Rs 2,950-3,130 and Rs 2,940-3,120 per quintal. Mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices too shed Rs 20 each at Rs 2,720-2,980 and Rs 2,710-2,970 per quintal.

In the millgate section, sugar Kinnoni, Dorala, Thanabhavan, Dhanora, Khatuli, Ramala and Baghpat all traded Rs 20 each lower at Rs 2,980, Rs 2,820, Rs 2,810, Rs 2,800, Rs 2,980, Rs 2,730 and Rs 2,740 per quintal, respectively. Following are today's quotations (in Rs per quintal)
