New Delhi: Winsome Group, the largest defaulter in India after Vijay Mallya's Kingfisher Airlines, have reportedly paid back a fraction of loan to lenders.
According to The Economic Times, after a period of two years, Winsome group has deposited a sum of USD 150,000, a fraction of a billion, into the accounts of the lenders.
The amount has come from the Middle East clients of the gold and diamond house Winsome and a group firm Forever, the ET said.
It is interesting to note that this comes amidst efforts by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Vijay Mallya to get back the Rs 9000 crore that the beleaguered liquor baron had default.
The Winsome group is reported to owe banks and lenders a sum of Rs 6,800 crore.
And what is interesting again is the fact that Jatin Mehta, spokesperson and promoter of the group has been away from India for a few years now.
Vijay Mallya, the promoter of the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines too left India about a month ago and is yet to return despite being summon by government agencies to appear before a court.
