Two SAIL's IISCO officers suspended for fire; one dead

Two general manager ranked officers of SAIL's IISCO steel plant at Burnpur were suspended in connection with Thursday's fire incident there in which one person died in a New Delhi hospital.

Burdwan (WB): Two general manager ranked officers of SAIL's IISCO steel plant at Burnpur were suspended in connection with Thursday's fire incident there in which one person died in a New Delhi hospital.

Coke Oven general manager Shubhajit Sinha and Safety Project general manager Chandan Banerjee were suspended, an IISCO spokesman said on Sunday.

A five-member probe team set up by SAIL Chairman Chandra Sekhar Verma suspended the two for alleged dereliction of duty after an investigation, the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, one of the 24 people who were injured in the fire incident died in a private hospital in New Delhi last night.

He was identified as Mohanlal Sethi, Vice-President of Bhilai Engineering Corporation, the spokesman said.
The other 23 person were hospitalised in Burdwan district.

The fire incident at New Coke Oven Battery number 11 occurred during a planned shutdown for carrying out rectification jobs in one of the pre-heaters of the coke oven battery.
