New Delhi: A day after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) questioned him in relation to alleged loan default of Rs 900 crore from IDBI Bank, it is revealed that Vijay Mally is said to have blamed the former UPA government for the failure of Kingfisher Airlines.

As per report in CNN-IBN, Mallya is said to have told the agency that the UPA government had favoured national carrier Air India and Jet Airways which led to the failure of his airlines.

He is also said to have name former finance minister P Chidambaram in the case.

On Thursday, the CBI had questioned Vijay Mallya examined UB Group Chairman Vijay Mallya in connection with its probe into alleged loan default of Rs 900 crore taken from IDBI bank.

Regarding the loan, Mallya told the investigating agency that he is trying to settle issues with banks, reports IBN.

The UB Group chairman also lamented the sudden increase in fuel prices and global recession which led to the failure of the airlines.

CBI has registered a case against Mallya, Director of defunct Kingfisher Airlines; the company; A Raghunathan, Chief Financial Officer of the Airlines; and unknown officials of IDBI Bank.

It is alleged that the loan was sanctioned in violation of norms regarding credit limits.

The CBI sources said an FIR into the alleged violations was registered recently as part of its wide probe into criminal aspects of loans declared to be non-performing assets by public sector banks.
