Vijay Mallya's Pilibhit-based 'guarantor' charges Bank of Baroda for defamation

Charging for defamation, Vijay Mallya's Pilibhit-based 'guarantor' farmer Manmohan Singh has issued a legal notice to Bank of Baroda's Mumbai regional office and its local branch for freezing two of his bank accounts recently.

New Delhi: Charging for defamation, Vijay Mallya's Pilibhit-based 'guarantor' farmer Manmohan Singh has issued a legal notice to Bank of Baroda's Mumbai regional office and its local branch for freezing two of his bank accounts recently.

He has asked for Rs 10 lakh in claim inside 30 days as per a report in Times of India.

Earlier this year the bank had frozen the account of Manmohan Singh for being a ‘guarantor’ to liquor baron Vijay Mallya's Rs 550 crore loan, who is facing charges of money laundering.

Singh, a farmer in Khajuria Naviram village under Bilsanda block of Pilibhit when went to the bank to deposit money was informed about the same. BoB had instructed the local Nand branch to freeze Singh's saving account (number 01/4637) and restrict operations of his crop loan account (number 01/3881)

The action by the bank has deprived him of availing basic facilities including receiving of MSP because payment for that is directly made to the bank account, which is frozen.
