New Delhi: Many a times we have felt that coming to office was difficult on a particular day but working otherwise was not a problem.
You would want a schedule which could let you work from home and at the same time not hamper your job.
Here are a few tips on how you can ask your boss to let you work from home. Or, if you can manage the following aspects, your boss might contemplate assigning you work from home.
Be specific on your need
You must first identify why the need would arise to work from home. Be also clear if this is going to be a permanent kind of situation or you will require this arrangement only sometimes. For example, you have to recieve someone at home during your office hours but there is no fixed time for the person's arrival. While, for all practical purpose, you can work that day, but coming to office will make things difficult for you. On such occassions you can work for a day from home. Let your boss know about this.
Be flexible
Don't be adamant on timings. Work from home is as regimental as working from office or on the field. You should be able to meet flexible timings. The office should know that you can also adjust according to the need.
Be always available
If you are working from home and remain incommunicado, it may create a lot of panic in office. Say, there is something urgent and the office people need your response on that. You should be prepared for such situations. Be always available on phone, skype, email etc.
Think for the company as much as you think for yourself
While applying for work from home, also think about office compulsions. Tell your boss how work from home can not only help you but also help the office. A lot of offices now a days give you this option because it saves a lot of commuting time and increases productivity.
Make sure that your company has this policy
This is the most important thing before asking for work from home. You have to make sure if your office policy has this option at all or not. If the office doesn't have the policy, then no matter how prepared you are, you won't be allowed.
