New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Sunday said that 8 percent growth rate possible if GST and smart cities are executed. “Rain gods may be kinder to us than they were last year, growth rate of 8-10 per cent not out of reach,” Jaitley said.

Jaitley said that agriculture sector will need huge amount of funding in the coming days and productivity of oil seeds this year may be higher.

“Revenue situation likely to be comfortable than last year, all macro parameters under control,” Jaitley said. Growth projections of 8 percent this year gives us a reason to smile, he said.

Earlier, the finance minister on Thursday expressed hope the “very important” GST Bill will get through in Parliament.

The monsoon session starting July 21 is expected to be a stormy one. Jaitley further said India is a “bright spot” amid slowing global economy and would need to further improve policies to move to higher growth trajectory.
