Electronics sector got proposal worth Rs 18,000 cr: Ravi Shankar Prasad

Government has received investment proposals worth Rs 18,000 crore in last six months in the field of electronic manufacturing, telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Saturday.

New Delhi: Government has received investment proposals worth Rs 18,000 crore in last six months in the field of electronic manufacturing, telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Saturday.

"We have received proposals till now worth Rs 18000 crore after coming in power. There is scope for improvement. Rs 4,000 crore investment we have approved, others are in pipeline," Prasad said while speaking on electronics manufacturing at Industry chamber FICCI's Annual General Meeting.

He said the new NDA government has approved 8-9 electronics clusters which will house full eco-system of making electronic products.

"The sum and substance of this electronic cluster is that if a state government gives 100 acre of land, the central govt gives Rs 50 crore (grant). If an investor invests Rs 100, government will give Rs 25. If a foreign investor comes and invests in India under the scheme and exports, he will also get benefit," Prasad said.

The Minister said he is open to tweaking policies in the sector to make it more investor friendly.
