Christine Lagarde, the chief of the International Monetary Fund will begin her 2-day trip to India on Monday during which she is likely to meet the country's top leadership including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"She (Lagarde) will be in Delhi on March the 16th, and then be moving down to Mumbai on March the 17th. She'll have a couple of speeches and remarks and presentations at those events," Assistant Director and Mission Chief for India in the IMF's Asian and Pacific Department, Paul Cashin said.
In addition to meeting the Prime Minister, Lagarde is also expected to meet Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
"India has prepared better than most emerging-market economies for any such external shocks," Lagarde said, adding that India had shrunk its current account deficit and boosted its stock of international reserves.
Last week, the IMF said in an annual report that India`s economy is recovering. But growth, which it forecast at 7.5 percent in the fiscal year starting April 1, would fall just below government expectations.
