New Delhi: The Myawaddy-Thinggan Nyenaung-Kawkareik section of the Asian highway linking India, Myanmar and Thailand will be put into service soon.

As per reports in the media, the Myawaddy-Thinggan Kawkareik Asian Superhighway which begins from Manipur will open as soon as November this year.

The first 26.5 km stretch will bring the travel time down to one hour, reports say.

The Asian highway runs from Moreh in India to Thailand's Maesot via Myanmar's Tamu, Mandalay and Myawaddy.

The construction of the Asian highway section started in 2012 with the assistance of Thailand.

It is being hoped that the highway will help in smoother and faster movement of goods between these regions. India main exports to these countries include pharma, machinery, vehicles, plastics and cotton while imports are pulses, rubber, wood, mineral oil and spices.
