Jharkhand seeks I-T dept opinion on IVRCL Infra for water project

The Jharkhand government has sought the Income Tax and vigilance departments' opinion on IVRCL Infrastructures & Projects Ltd before the award of a Rs 253-crore water supply project to the company.

Hyderabad
: The Jharkhand government has sought the Income Tax and vigilance departments' opinion on IVRCL Infrastructures & Projects Ltd before the award of a Rs 253-crore water supply project to the company.

"We heard some reports that the company is under the scanner of investigation agencies. The government wanted to know if it is advisable to award a contract to a company which is allegedly under investigation," said PK Jojoria, Secretary, Drinking Water and Sanitation Department (DWSD).

He further said over phone that they are awaiting a reply from both the departments.

The bid of IVRCL for revamping the water supply system for the state capital Ranchi -- a JNNURM project -- was cleared by the tender committee as the lowest one 10 days ago.

When contacted, a top official of IVRCL said that according to the tendering process they are the L1 and the contract must be awarded to them. "We are not aware of the Jharkhand government’s intentions. On what basis either the  Income Tax or any other department assesses us," IVRCL Executive Director Brahmananda Reddy said.

IVRCL is already executing two urban water supply projects for Jhumri Tilaiya and Deoghar in the state at an estimated cost of Rs 26 crore and Rs 47 crore, respectively.

IVRCL in a statement issued recently had said that no offices of IVRCL Infrastructures & Projects Ltd were raided and the news items which claims that raids by the Income Tax Department are unfounded and baseless.
