June retail inflation at 8-month high of 5.4%

On the back of higher prices of food items, fuel, housing, clothing and footwear, retail inflation rose to 5.4 percent in June, an 8-month high, as compared to the 5.01 percent in May.

New Delhi: On the back of higher prices of food items, fuel, housing, clothing and footwear, retail inflation rose to 5.4 percent in June, an 8-month high, as compared to the 5.01 percent in May.

According to government data released Monday, the consumer price index (CPI) based inflation for the month of June stood at 5.40 percent.

In the month of April 2015, CPI inflation stood at 4.87 percent .

Retail food inflation rose to 5.48 percent in June from 4.80 percent in May.

As per the data released, the vegetable price inflation for June stood at 5.37 percent compared to the 4.64 percent in May while the cereal and products inflation stood at 1.68 percent.

Core CPI inflation rose to 4.85 percent while clothing and footwear inflation rose to 6.34 percent from the 6.12 percent in May, the data showed.

Urban inflation also rose to 6.07 percent in the month of June as compared to the 5.52 percent in May.
