Modi govt's bonanza for farmers: Crop damage compensation hiked by 50%, eligibility lowered

The eligibility for getting compensation for crop damage due to natural calamity has been lowered from 50 percent of crop area to 33 percent.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that the eligibility for getting compensation for crop damage due to natural calamity has been lowered from 50 percent of crop area to 33 percent.

Speaking at the launch event of MUDRA Bank at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi today, the PM also added that the quantum of compensation to affected farmers has been increased by 50 percent.

Many farmers have committed suicide in different parts of the country after unseasonal rains damaged their crop.

Unseasonal storms have badly damaged the winter crop in large parts of the fertile northern plains and villagers have blamed the government for not stepping in to help the distressed farmers or ensuring that crop prices remain stable.
