Power tariff for commercial, industrial consumers hiked in UP

The Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPSERC) has hiked power tariff for commercial and industrial consumers, while exempting domestic and rural consumers in the state.

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPSERC) has hiked power tariff for commercial and industrial consumers, while exempting domestic and rural consumers in the state.

The new tariff, which comes into retrospective effect from October 1 would be valid for a period of six months up to March 31, official sources said here.

Power tariff for large and heavy industry has been raised by up to 30 percent, whereas it has been raised by up to 18 percent for small and medium industries, they said, adding that fixed charges have also been revised.

For the urban commercial consumers the tariff has been raised by up to 20 percent, sources said.

In a breather to common people, tariff of urban domestic, rural domestic and commercial and farmers remained unchanged, they said.

Besides, tariff for departmental employees and pensioners has not been modified.

Overall an average hike of 17.63 percent has been effected the UPSERC.

In the new tariff order rate of temporary connection has been revised and now instead of Rs 1,800 per day the consumer would be required to pay Rs 2,500 per day.

The tariff has also been hiked for all government departments, street-lightning, institutions and other bodies as well.

In the new order provision has been made that higher tariff would be charged if street lights remain functional during day time.

Similarly, small and medium insdustries would be required to pay more if they operate during peak hours from 6 pm to 10 pm.
