Retail inflation drops to 6.46% in September

Helped by lower food and fuel costs, retail inflation dropped to 6.46 percent in September compared to the 7.3 percent in August.

New Delhi: Helped by lower food and fuel costs, retail inflation dropped to 6.46 percent in September compared to the 7.3 percent in August.

Consumer Price Index (CPI) based or retail inflation for the month of September stood at 6.46 percent, the second straight fall. In September 2013, the retail inflation stood at 7.78 percent.

The retail inflation for August which stood at 7.8 percent was corrected to 7.3 percent.

The CPI inflation was brought down mainly by lower cost of fuel and light which came down to 3.45 percent from the previuos month of 4.15 percent.

Food inflation also fell to 7.67 percent come compared to the 9.42 percent in August. In July, the food inflation had stood at 9.36 percent.

Urban and rural inflation also came down to 6.34 percent and 6.68 percent respectively.

Vegetable inflation stood at 8.59 percent as compared to the 15.15 percent in August and 16.88 percent in July.
