New Delhi: Travelling is becoming more convenient for train passengers. Railways Minister has unveiled a couple of services that will cut down the travel woes, particularly of long distance travellers.

1) Hand held terminals for TTE: Started with the Northern Railways, Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTEs) have been provided hand held terminals, which will speed up the exchange of information between TTE and the main server, and cut down the waiting time for passengers travelling on RAC tickets

The hand held terminal will help TTE in downloading  information through GPRS, updating the chart on vacant seats, collecting excess fare, penalty and other charges, issuing printed receipt to the passenger. The device is expected to make the operations of TTE transparent and reduce any possibility of  corruption.

2) E-Bed roll service. The Railway Ministry started a service of e-Bedroll that allows passengers to avail bedroll kits through online booking and from over the counter at select outlets set up by the IRCTC on the stations. The minister launched the service last week in Chennai Railway station, which is now available in New Delhi Railway station as well as Hazrat Nizam-uddin Railways station.

Passengers can avail this facility by paying Rs 140 for two bed sheets and a pillow and Rs 110 for a blanket, or pay Rs 250 and purchase all together.
