The benchmark BSE Sensex extended its yesterday's gains in early trade Wednesday on sustained buying by funds and retail investors.
Continuing its rising streak for the fourth straight session, the 30-share index rose by 60.21 points to 20,913. The index had gained nearly 316 points in the previous 3 sessions.
The wide-based Nifty of the National Stock Exchange rose 16 points to 6,216.
Covering-up of short positions by speculatives in view of today's monthly expiry in the derivatives segment supported the upside in select stocks.
In the Asian region, Japan's Nikkei Index fell 0.13 per cent, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng index was trading 0.18 percent higher in early trade.
The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.17 per cent down in yesterday's trade.
