Chennai floods: Banks to remain open on Sunday

New Delhi: All public and private sector banks in the flood-ravaged Chennai and other districts of Tamil Nadu will remain open on Sunday and also offer extended business hours, according to a Finance Ministry statement.

All banks in flood-affected areas will conduct operations on Sunday and work for extended business hours, the statement said.

The Department of Financial Services today held a meeting with all the public and private sector lenders and reviewed the banking services in Chennai and other affected districts of Tamil Nadu.

They have also been asked to restore banking services in affected areas as early as possible and provide ATM and other facilities to the people round the clock, the statement said.

The government has also asked the banks to provide mobile ATMs/PoS Machine services through Bank Mitras mounted on boat or other means, it added.
