Companies garner Rs 2,538 crore via preferential issues in January

Mumbai: Fund mobilisation by listed firms through preferential allotments of shares surged four-fold to Rs 2,538 crore during January over the preceding month.

Companies had garnered Rs 606 crore through issuance of shares to their respective promoters and shareholders on preferential basis during December, latest data compiled by capital markets regulator Sebi showed.

In January, the total number preferential issues stood at 26 that amounted to Rs 2,538 crore. In December, 21 such issues were seen.

With the January figures, the funds mopped up through preferential route for first ten months of the current fiscal stood at Rs 25,679 crore from as many as 374 issues.

In the same period last fiscal, companies had garnered Rs 43,359 crore from 351 issues.

Month-wise, the highest amount of 5,142 crore was raised in May, followed by Rs 3,271 in June and Rs 3,160 crore in April.

Of the total Rs 2,538 crore funds mopped up in January, an amount of Rs 2,141 crore was mobilised from 12 issues listed on both BSE and the National Stock Exchange (NSE). The remaining amount of Rs 397 crore was raised through 14 issues listed on the NSE.
