Companies raise Rs 37,657 cr via debt placement in Nov

Funds raised by public listed firms through private placement of debt securities rose nearly three-fold to Rs 37,657.40 crore in November this year as compared to same month last year.

Mumbai: Funds raised by public listed firms through private placement of debt securities rose nearly three-fold to Rs 37,657.40 crore in November this year as compared to same month last year.

The companies had raised nearly Rs 11,175 crore from debt on a private placement basis during November 2013-14, according to the Sebi data.

The fund mobilisation via debt securities in November 2014 is, however, lower than Rs 38,399.36 crore raised in the previous month of October, the data showed.

In April-November 2014-15, the value of funds garnered through private placement of debt securities touched Rs 2.21 lakh crore, an increase 24.6 percent over the same period last fiscal.

Companies issue debt securities or bonds to institutional investors to raise capital.

Fund raising through private placement had been subdued at the beginning of the financial year on account of good performance of the equities in the stock market.

Of the total funds raised in November, this year, Rs 16,113.85 crore were mobilised through issues listed only on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

This was followed by Rs 14,943.55 crore mobilised on the issues listed on BSE and Rs 6,600 crore from issues listed on both NSE and BSE.

The amount raised in November is the third highest in the month after Rs 58,578.53 crore in September and Rs 38,399.36 crore in October this fiscal.
