Delhi Budget 2016: VAT rate slashed to 5% from existing 12.5%; clothes, sweets to get cheaper

Presenting Budget for financial year 2016-17, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who holds the finance portfolio, on Monday slashed the Value Added Tax (VAT) rate from 12.5 percent to 5 percent.

New Delhi: Presenting Budget for financial year 2016-17, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who holds the finance portfolio, on Monday slashed the Value Added Tax (VAT) rate from 12.5 percent to 5 percent.

Keeping the Rs 46,600 crore annual budget for 2016-17, Delhi government pegged the Plan outlay at Rs 20,600 crore.

e rickshaws, battery operated vehicles

Hybrid vehicles

Sweets, snacks and savoury items

All ready-made garments

- Registered 17 percent growth in total revenue in 2015-16

- Encouraging ease of doing business

-Art, culture & language to be boosted by expenditure of Rs 54 cr in Delhi in the year 2016-17

- 100 cr allocated for delivering basic amenities to the Jhuggi Bastis

- "Bill Banao Inam Pao" Scheme has helped eliminate tax evasion. 1 Cr extra tax collected last month
