India Inc's foreign borrowing up 44.5% in January

India Inc raised over USD 2.59 billion from overseas markets in January 2015, up 44.5 percent from a year ago, RBI data showed Thursday.

Mumbai: India Inc raised over USD 2.59 billion from overseas markets in January 2015, up 44.5 percent from a year ago, RBI data showed Thursday.

The domestic firms had raised USD 1.79 billion from overseas in the same month a year ago.
Of the total borrowings during the month, USD 1.09 billion was raised through approval route, while USD 1.50 billion came through automatic route.

In the approval route, Reliance Industries Ltd raised USD 1 billion for rupee expenditure, Adani Power Rajasthan Ltd USD 90 million for power project and Aero Structures Manufacturing India raised USD 4.64 million for import of capital goods.

In the automatic route, the major borrowers were Ford India USD 337.48 million for rupee expenditure, Delhi International Airport Private Limited USD 288.75 million for refinancing of earlier ECB, Bharat Petroleum Corp USD 100 million (earlier ECB refinance) and Petronet LNG USD 125 million for modernisation.
